First we followed a native trail, identifying
and discovering some of our own native flora and fauna. This included

sampling some pepper tree leaves and discovering exactly why the tree is so named!
Our next tasks were observational drawing and observational writing. After lunch, much fun was had in the children’s playground, as the eTime scholars headed for the swings, slides and climbing equipment.
Back at eTime we finely honed our observational writing, producing some outstanding poetry. Today’s exemplar is by Emma.
Cicada’s Cackle
Inside the blackbird’s wing, the dappled light.
Inside the dappled light, the totara’s stringy bark.
Inside the totara’s bark, the cicada’s cackle.
Inside the cicada’s cackle, the mighty kauri.
Inside the mighty kauri, the mallard’s beak.
Inside the mallard’s beak, the proud lancewood.
Inside the proud lancewood, the blackbird’s wing.
